Our dentists are experienced in performing comfortable extractions and providing quality tooth-replacement options.
Do You Need A Tooth Extraction In Lansing, IL?
At Pallotto Dental Care, we strive to save every tooth, whenever possible, because it is often the most cost-effective and best way to protect our patients’ smiles.
Sometimes, however, deep decay, damage, or an infection requires that we remove a problem tooth before it causes oral health issues. Our dentists in Lansing recommend this as a last resort but also want to make sure our patients can enjoy the best dental health.
If we do recommend an extraction, we will provide tooth replacement options to increase patient confidence in their smiles and to make eating and speaking easier.
Your Tooth Extraction Appointment
As with all procedures, our dentists make sure that our patients are comfortable for their treatment. We often perform dental extractions here in our Lansing, IL dental office without the need for a referral to another practice.
Dr. Josephine Pallotto and Dr. Anthony Pallotto all have experience with all types of dental extractions. For more complex surgeries, we have an oral surgeon in our office on a regular basis to ensure the best results.
Post-Extraction Care Instructions
It is normal to experience mild discomfort as your mouth heals. Taking care of your surgical site will help it heal more quickly and comfortably.
Avoid smoking, drinking out of a straw, and chewing on the affected site. Dislodging the healing tissue may result in a complication called dry socket, which can feel painful and cause healing to take longer.
Keep the area clean, but do not use a WaterPik or other harsh irrigation technique. Rinsing with lukewarm water and any recommended antibiotic rinse that our dentists recommend will speed the process along.
We will schedule a follow-up appointment to make sure healing is on track and to discuss tooth-replacement options, if necessary.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions In Lansing, IL
Wisdom teeth sometimes become symptomatic and create problems for our patients due to the limited amount of space at the back of the mouth. Sometimes they erupt (come through the gums) and then recede or do not have enough room to erupt at all. This is known as impaction and can cause jaw, facial, or dental pain.
In other cases, wisdom teeth may push against second molars and create overcrowding. A visit to our dental office will help our dentists determine the necessity of a dental extraction.
Tooth-Replacement Options
If we do perform an extraction, with the exception of a wisdom tooth, we will likely recommend tooth replacement to fill the gap.
We offer:
- Fixed dental bridges
- Dental implants
- Partial dentures
- Complete dentures
Our dentists will discuss the treatment that will work best on an individual basis.
